The short answer: for most women, the Braun Silk-épil 7 SE7-041 ($99.94 on Amazon.com, checked October 21, 2026) is the epilator to buy: the same 40 tweezers as the Silk-épil 9, a wide head, and the most ratings of the range (4.2/5 from 1,597). The Silk-épil 9 ($149.99) adds a mode that adapts to how hard you press, a real plus for sensitive skin.

    Key points

    • Same number of tweezers: 40 on the Silk-épil 7, the 9 and the 9 Flex, versus 28 on the Silk-épil 5, according to Braun.
    • The real difference on the 9: Smart Touch, which switches between power and gentle mode depending on how hard you press. On the 7, you pick the mode yourself.
    • Battery life, per Braun: 40 minutes for the 7, 50 minutes for the 9, in both cases “when used within 24 hours of charging.”
    • Price gap on October 21, 2026: $99.94 for the 7, $149.99 for the 9, $209.94 for the 9 Flex.

What does the Silk-épil 9 really add over the 7?

The automatic mode. On the Silk-épil 9, Smart Touch adjusts the speed to your pressure: a light touch switches to gentle mode for sensitive areas, normal pressure to power mode. The Silk-épil 9 manual notes that the feature is tuned for the massage roller cap. The Silk-épil 7 has the same gentle and power settings, but you switch between them yourself.

The pressure light. On the 9, a red light comes on when you press too hard. Long-time users call it a real safeguard, since pressing harder doesn’t remove more hair; it just irritates more.

The battery. 50 minutes promised versus 40. The manual adds that a 15-minute quick charge gives you 10 minutes of use, and asks for a 2-hour charge before the first use.

What stays the same. 40 tweezers on both, hairs caught from 0.5 mm (0.02 in), wet or dry use in the shower or bath, and a shaver head and trimmer comb in the box.

And the 9 Flex? Braun calls it the world’s first fully flexible epilator head, which follows your underarms, knees and bikini line more closely (Amazon.com listing). It’s the one hardware upgrade over the 9, for $59.95 more on October 21, 2026.

    How we choose

    1. Your areas: legs only, the 7 is all you need; frequent underarms and bikini line, the flexible head earns its keep.
    2. Your skin: if it reacts fast, the 9’s automatic mode keeps you from pressing too hard.
    3. The price on the day: the gap between the 7 and the 9 moves, so compare before paying it.

    Who should skip it

If you’ve never epilated and hate the idea of the first sting, start with the Silk-épil 5 or a women’s electric razor. Braun’s own tip makes the first weeks easier: epilate once a week, in the morning, so any redness fades during the day.

What Braun’s product pages don’t spell out

Putting Braun’s current product pages, the Silk-épil 9 manual and an older Braun help article side by side brings up three points that no single source puts together.

    1. “40% wider head” changed meaning. Braun’s help article on the Silk-épil 3 to 9 credits it to the Silk-épil 9, “in addition to the Silk-épil 7 features.” Today, the Silk-épil 7’s own listing claims a wide head that removes more hair per stroke than the Silk-épil 5. On the current range, head width no longer separates the 7 from the 9.

    2. The 50 minutes are a best case. The manual says “up to 50 minutes” if you use the epilator within 24 hours of charging. The real gap with the 7 can be smaller than the 10 minutes on the box.

    3. Paying more doesn’t buy happier buyers. On Amazon.com on October 21, 2026: 4.3/5 for the Silk-épil 5, 4.2/5 for the 7, 4.1/5 for the 9, 4.0/5 for the 9 Flex.

The math. Going from the 7 to the 9 costs $50.05 and gets you the automatic mode, the pressure light and up to 10 more minutes of battery. Going from the 9 to the 9 Flex costs $59.95 more for the flexible head. If you mostly do your legs, the 7 gives you everything that matters.

    Before your first use

Braun’s Silk-épil 9 manual asks you to see a doctor first if you have eczema, wounds or inflamed skin (folliculitis), varicose veins around moles, reduced skin immunity (for example diabetes, pregnancy, Raynaud’s disease), hemophilia, candida or immune deficiency. Don’t run it over warts or piercings. Some redness after epilating is normal; if it lasts more than 36 hours, Braun recommends seeing a doctor.

If you’re unsure about your skin, ask a dermatologist before your first use; the manufacturer’s manual has the final word.

    FAQ

Does the Silk-épil 9 have more tweezers than the Silk-épil 7?
No. The 7, the 9 and the 9 Flex each have 40 tweezers, according to Braun. Only the Silk-épil 5 drops to 28.

How long does the Silk-épil 9 battery last?
Braun promises up to 50 minutes if you use it within 24 hours of charging. A 15-minute quick charge gives you 10 minutes of use.

How long should hair be before epilating?
Between 0.5 and 3 mm (about 0.02 to 0.12 in), per Braun’s manual. If it’s longer, trim it first.

Is the Silk-épil 9 Flex worth the extra money?
Yes if you often epilate curvy areas like underarms, knees or the bikini line. It cost $59.95 more than the Silk-épil 9 on October 21, 2026, for a fully flexible head.

Does epilating hurt less over time?
Yes, the first sessions are the most uncomfortable, Braun’s manual says. The massage roller cap, included with the 7 and the 5, helps soften the feeling.

    Our verdict

For most women, the Braun Silk-épil 7 SE7-041 ($99.94, checked October 21, 2026) is the one to buy: 40 tweezers, a wide head, the shaver head and trimmer comb in the box, sold by Amazon and backed by 1,597 ratings (4.2/5). The Silk-épil 9 SES9-030 ($149.99) is worth it if your skin reacts fast and you want a mode that adjusts itself. The Silk-épil 9 Flex ($209.94) shines on underarms, knees and bikini line. On a budget, the Silk-épil 5 SE5-011 ($69.99) does the job with 28 tweezers and the best rating of the four.

The short answer: the Braun Silk-expert Pro 5 PL5157 ($349.94 on Amazon.com, checked October 21, 2026) is the at-home IPL to buy if you have dark hair on light to medium skin: it treats both legs in about 7 to 10 minutes, weighs about 10 oz (285 g), and is the most-reviewed Braun IPL on Amazon.com (4.1/5 from 2,098 ratings). Pick the Skin i-expert Pro 7 ($404.22) if you want app coaching and a real-time coverage tracker.

What really separates the Pro 5 and the Pro 7?

The guidance. This is the big one. The Pro 7 connects to Braun’s app, which walks you through each session step by step and shows a real-time coverage tracker so you don’t miss spots (Amazon.com listing). The Pro 5 skips the app: you pick the head, press, and glide.

The sensor. Both read your skin tone and set the strength of each flash for you. On the Pro 5, Braun’s sensor picks one of 10 intensity levels on its own, with normal, sensitive and extra-sensitive modes if you want it gentler (Braun US, PL5157); Braun’s European pages add that it reads your skin 80 times per second.

The flashes. Braun rates the Pro 5 at 400,000 flashes, which is years of full-body sessions. Flash count doesn’t separate the two models.

The heads. The PL5157 comes with a standard head, a precision head for the face, underarms and bikini line, a Gillette Venus razor and a pouch. The Pro 7 PL7243 comes with three smart heads, a Venus razor and a vanity case.

The speed. We Are Body Beautiful, a UK site that timed five sessions per device, clocked 7 to 10 minutes for full legs with the Pro 5 and weighed it at 285 g, about 10 oz (their test). Braun advertises a full-body session (legs, underarms, bikini, upper lip) in about 10 minutes for both models.

Who it works on. IPL targets the pigment in the hair. Braun says its devices suit light to medium-dark skin and natural blonde to dark brown or black hair, and work least well on very blonde, red, gray or white hair.

    Before your first flash

IPL isn’t for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, on tanned or sunburned skin, over tattoos, moles or permanent makeup, or while you take light-sensitizing medication. Do a patch test first, and if you’re unsure about your skin, ask a dermatologist; the manufacturer’s manual always has the final word.

How many sessions, and how often?

Braun’s US product page for the Pro 5 recommends one session a week, with visible results promised after 2 sessions in its lower-leg clinical study. Its Amazon.com listings now advertise just 2 sessions a month for 3 months, then touch-ups when you need them. Braun also claims up to 95% hair reduction in one month on the lower legs. These are brand figures, but they give you a clear plan: a few months of short sessions, then the occasional retouch.

Versus the salon. Spread the price over 12 sessions in your first year and the Pro 5 works out to $29.16 a session, the Pro 7 to $33.69 and the Mini to $16.66, for every compatible body area at once (prices checked October 21, 2026). If a salon charges you more than that per visit, the device pays for itself in year one.

    How we choose

    1. Compatibility: your skin tone and hair color against the chart in the manual.
    2. A schedule you’ll stick to: short, regular sessions beat ambitious plans.
    3. Your areas: a precision head for face and bikini, a fast device for legs.

    Who should skip it

If your hair is light blonde, red, gray or white, or your skin is very dark (type VI), an at-home IPL won’t do much for you: look at a women’s electric razor or an epilator instead. Everyone else just needs to keep up with the first few weeks; that’s where the results come from.

    What about the Philips Lumea?

In Europe, the Philips Lumea is the Pro 5’s main rival. In the US, it’s hard to get: Philips doesn’t sell it on Amazon.com, and on October 21, 2026, its US store offered only a “back in stock” alert for the Lumea 9900 Pro (Philips USA). That’s why this guide compares the two Braun models you can order today, shipped by Amazon.

    FAQ

Is the Braun Pro 7 better than the Pro 5?
It’s smarter, not stronger. Both read your skin tone and adjust each flash. The Pro 7 adds app coaching, a real-time coverage tracker and a third head, for $54.28 more on October 21, 2026.

Does IPL work on dark skin or blonde hair?
Not on very dark skin: the skin-tone sensor blocks the flash. On light blonde, red, gray or white hair, Braun says IPL is least effective, because there’s too little pigment for the light to target.

How soon will I see results?
Braun promises visible results after 2 sessions with the Pro 5, and from the first session with the Pro 7 based on app users’ self-assessments. Plan on a few months of regular sessions for the full effect.

Do I need to shave before each session?
Yes. Shave the area so the light reaches the root, not the hair above the skin; that’s why both kits include a Venus razor. Skip waxing and depilatory creams during treatment.

Can I buy the Philips Lumea in the US?
Not easily. It wasn’t listed on Amazon.com on October 21, 2026, and Philips’ US store showed the Lumea 9900 Pro as out of stock.

    Our verdict

For dark hair on light to medium skin, the Braun Silk-expert Pro 5 PL5157 ($349.94, checked October 21, 2026) is the IPL to buy: fast, light, a precision head in the box, sold by Amazon and backed by 2,098 ratings (4.1/5). If you love being coached, the Skin i-expert Pro 7 ($404.22) turns every session into a guided routine. On a tighter budget, the Silk-expert Mini PL1014 ($199.94) gets you started. The short answer: the best electric razor for women is the Philips Lady Shaver Series 8000 BRL159 ($74.95 on Amazon.com, checked October 21, 2026): it’s rechargeable, works in the shower, and is the one razor here that Philips designs for your face, legs, body and bikini line. For occasional legs and underarms, the Philips SatinShave Essential ($19.95) does the job on two AA batteries. To trim your bikini line or brows, get the Veet All-in-One Trimmer ($40.23).

Razor, trimmer or epilator: what’s the difference?

An electric razor cuts hair at skin level, under a foil or guarded blades, without pulling it out. The Lady Shaver Series 8000 pairs a 3-blade system with a flexible head that follows your curves, an LED light to spot every hair, two speeds and up to 100 minutes of battery life; Philips says it removes hair as short as 0.2 mm (0.008 in). The BRL159 kit adds a bikini trimmer head, a trimming comb, an exfoliation glove, a pouch and a separate facial hair remover (Amazon.com listing). The SatinShave Essential is a simple foil shaver with a hypoallergenic foil, built for sensitive legs; it runs on the two AA batteries in the box. The Remington Smooth & Silky uses four blades, including a dual-sided trimmer that preps longer hairs, and runs 30 minutes per charge.

A trimmer shortens hair instead of shaving it to the skin. The Veet All-in-One has two heads: a small one for face and brows, with a 2-4 mm comb, and a larger one for body and bikini, with 2 mm and 4 mm (about 1/16 and 1/8 in) combs. It’s waterproof and recharges over USB. Perfect for a neat bikini line or brows, not for smooth legs.

An epilator pulls each hair out by the root, so your skin stays smooth for weeks; see our Braun Silk-épil 7 vs 9 guide. To space out shaving for good, IPL is another route: our Braun Silk-expert Pro 5 vs Pro 7 comparison explains how it works.

Wet or dry: how to avoid irritation

All four work with water. The Lady Shaver 8000 works on wet or dry skin and, per its manual, only cordless for safety. The SatinShave Essential can be used dry or with gel or foam in the shower. The Veet trimmer is waterproof for the bath or shower, and the Remington shaves wet or dry.

To keep redness away, Philips calls mild irritation normal during the first few shaves and advises against exfoliating 24 hours before and 48 hours after shaving. Veet suggests a first try on your arms if your skin reacts easily, and stopping if it gets irritated.

    How we choose

    1. The area: use a tool on your face or bikini line only if the brand designs it for that.
    2. How often: shaving every week calls for a rechargeable; for touch-ups, batteries are fine.
    3. Your skin: if it turns red in the shower, shave dry and test a small area first.

    Who should skip it

If you want your legs smooth for weeks rather than days, an electric razor isn’t the tool: hair grows back as fast as with a blade. Choose an epilator or IPL instead, and keep a small razor for touch-ups.

Which one for your legs, bikini line and face

What you need Our pick Why (per the brand)
Smooth legs every week Lady Shaver Series 8000 Rechargeable, up to 100 min per charge
Legs and underarms on a budget Philips SatinShave Essential Batteries included, wet or dry
Bikini line Veet trimmer or Lady Shaver 8000 Philips requires the comb on the outer labia
Face and brows Veet trimmer or Lady Shaver 8000 BRL159 The only two designed for the face, away from the eyes
Legs, with a closer 4-blade shave Remington Smooth & Silky Dual-sided trimmer preps longer hairs

Watch the model number: in the US, the Lady Shaver 8000 BRL159 includes a facial hair remover and is sold for the face; the BRL149 ($54.96 on October 21, 2026) is the legs, body and bikini version. If you don’t need the face, the BRL149 saves you $19.99.

Batteries or recharge: the Lady Shaver 8000 costs $55 more than the SatinShave Essential, but it recharges over USB and covers your face too; its only regular expense is a new cutting unit, which Philips recommends once a year.

    Before your first shave

Philips says not to use its shaver on irritated, broken or healing skin, varicose veins, pimples or moles, never on the inner labia, and always with the comb on the outer labia. Veet keeps its trimmer away from the eye area, inside the ears and nose, and mucous membranes. If you’re unsure about your skin, ask a dermatologist; the manual has the final word.

For facial peach fuzz, see Braun FaceSpa vs a dermaplaning razor.

    FAQ

Can I use a women’s electric razor on my face?
Only if the brand designs it for that. Philips sells the Lady Shaver Series 8000 BRL159 for face, legs, body and bikini, and Veet sells its trimmer for face and brows, away from the eyes. The SatinShave Essential and the Remington are made for legs and body.

Razor or trimmer for the bikini line?
A trimmer shortens hair (2 mm and 4 mm combs on the Veet); a razor leaves skin smooth. Philips says never to use its shaver on the inner labia.

Can I shave in the shower with an electric razor?
Yes, with all four models in this guide. Use the Lady Shaver 8000 cordless only when wet, as its manual says.

How do I avoid razor irritation?
No exfoliating 24 hours before or 48 hours after shaving (Philips), and a test on your arms first if your skin reacts easily (Veet).

Do I need to replace the blades?
Yes. For the Lady Shaver Series 8000, Philips recommends a new cutting unit every year, or sooner if you shave more than twice a week or it stops cutting as well.

    Our verdict

The Philips Lady Shaver Series 8000 BRL159 ($74.95, checked October 21, 2026, 4.1/5 from 150 ratings) is the best electric razor for women in this guide: rechargeable, shower-ready, and the only shaver here that its brand designs for your face, legs, body and bikini line. For legs and underarms now and then, the Philips SatinShave Essential ($19.95, 4.3/5 from 18,911 ratings) is an easy yes. For a neat bikini line or brows, the Veet All-in-One Trimmer ($40.23) is the tool. Shaving is also the prep step before IPL: our Braun Pro 5 vs Pro 7 comparison covers both devices. If you shave peach fuzz, wait 48 hours before using a facial cleansing brush, as Philips advises. All our picks: Our picks.

The short answer: for peach fuzz, the Braun FaceSpa Pro 911 ($129.99 on Amazon.com, checked October 21, 2026) is our pick if you’d rather skip blades: it epilates facial hair at the root, cleanses with a brush and tones with a vibrating head, all in one rechargeable device. If you’re happy with a blade, the Schick Hydro Silk Dermaplane Razor ($10.93 with 3 refills) is the best low-cost choice.

Our pick: the Braun FaceSpa Pro 911, because it removes peach fuzz at the root, cleanses your face with its brush and costs $129.99, rated 4.0/5 from 2,124 Amazon.com ratings, sold and shipped by Amazon (checked October 21, 2026). If you want to spend less and your skin is fine with a blade, the Schick Hydro Silk Dermaplane Razor at $10.93 is a great second choice.

Epilator or razor: which one is right for you?

Dermaplaning means shaving your face with a fine blade to remove peach fuzz and dead skin cells. A facial epilator like Braun’s grabs short hairs and pulls them out at the root, and the FaceSpa Pro adds a cleansing brush and a toning head.

    • Light peach fuzz, skin that’s fine with shaving: a razor is all you need. Kitsch sells 12 razors for $7.64; Schick’s Hydro Silk comes with a weighted metal handle and 3 refills for $10.93.
    • No blades, and one device that also cleanses: the Braun FaceSpa Pro 911 is rechargeable and, per Braun, removes hair 4 times shorter than wax can.
    • Thicker hair than peach fuzz: see our guide to the best electric razors for women or, for the body, Braun Silk-épil 7 vs 9.

Lining up the Amazon.com listings with Harvard Health’s dermaplaning advice brings out three points that no single page highlights.

Over two years (26 sessions)TotalPer session
Kitsch razors, a new blade each time (3 packs of 12)$22.92$0.88
    Braun FaceSpa Pro 911$129.99$5.00

Our math, based on Amazon.com prices on October 21, 2026: one session every 4 weeks, a fresh blade each time.

    • The schedule is about the same. Schick recommends dermaplaning every 2 to 4 weeks, and Braun says epilating keeps skin smooth for up to 4 weeks. Either way, plan on about 13 sessions a year.
    • The FaceSpa buys you comfort, not savings. Harvard Health recommends a new, clean blade every session, which keeps razors very cheap. The FaceSpa Pro costs $107.07 more over two years, and in exchange you get no blades at all, a cleansing brush and a toning head in one rechargeable device.
    • A crowd favorite vs a bestseller. The FaceSpa Pro has 2,124 ratings at 4.0/5; the Kitsch razors have 38,875 at 4.3/5. Both have a big base of buyers, so you’re choosing a method, not gambling on a product.
Skin health: these tools don’t treat any skin condition, and we don’t promise results. If you have sensitive skin, active acne, rosacea, eczema or cold-sore outbreaks, ask a dermatologist before shaving or epilating your face. After dermaplaning, Harvard Health suggests skipping acid and retinol products for a few days.

    Who should skip it

    • Very sensitive skin and epilators: pulling hair can sting at first. Start with a small area, like above the lip, and give your skin a few sessions to adjust.
    • Acne, rosacea or eczema and razors: Harvard Health advises against dermaplaning in these cases; check with a dermatologist first.
    How we choose

    1. We compare the day’s price and rating, with the number of reviews.
    2. We work out the two-year cost, not just the price tag.
    3. We cross-check listings with a medical source’s precautions.

    FAQ

    Is dermaplaning at home safe?
Harvard Health considers it safe if done carefully, but like any shave it can cause small nicks. Use a new, clean blade every session and skip acid or retinol products for a few days afterward. Sensitive skin, rosacea, eczema and acne are reasons to ask a dermatologist first.

Braun FaceSpa or dermaplaning razor: which should I choose?
A dermaplaning razor costs $7.64 to $10.93 on October 21, 2026 and is enough for light peach fuzz if your skin likes it. The Braun FaceSpa Pro 911 costs $129.99: it removes hair at the root and also cleanses and tones, for anyone who’d rather skip blades.

How much does a facial epilator cost over two years?
The Braun FaceSpa Pro 911 is a one-time $129.99 and recharges, so there’s nothing else to buy. A dermaplaning razor with a new blade every 4 weeks comes to $22.92 over two years with Kitsch 12-packs.

Does the Braun facial epilator hurt?
It can sting at first, especially on sensitive skin, as with any epilator. Try a small area first, such as above your lip, and follow Braun’s manual.

Will dermaplaning make hair grow back thicker?
No. Schick calls that a common myth: shaving peach fuzz doesn’t make it grow back thicker or darker.

    Our verdict

Our pick: the Braun FaceSpa Pro 911, because it removes peach fuzz at the root, cleanses your face with its brush and costs $129.99, rated 4.0/5 from 2,124 Amazon.com ratings, sold and shipped by Amazon (checked October 21, 2026). It’s made for anyone who wants to skip the blade and fold hair removal and cleansing into one step. If you’d rather spend less, the Schick Hydro Silk Dermaplane Razor at $10.93 is a great second choice, and the Kitsch 12-pack at $7.64 is the cheapest way to start. The short answer: our pick is the Braun Silk·expert Pro 5 IPL, already down to $349.94 on Amazon.com from a $419.94 list price (checked October 21, 2026), rated 4.1/5 from 2,098 ratings: an at-home alternative to salon laser sessions for women and men. Black Friday falls on Friday, November 27, 2026: keep the prices below as the ones to beat.

Which beauty devices to watch before November 27?

Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving, and Cyber Monday on November 30. To recognize a good deal that day, you need to know today’s price. So on October 21, 2026, we checked the Amazon.com price of eight devices our guides already recommend, next to the list or “typical” price Amazon displays.

Prices, list prices, ratings and rating counts checked on Amazon.com on October 21, 2026, except the Airwrap Origin price, from dyson.com the same day. Deals are confirmed on the day itself: a price can change several times in 24 hours.

    What today’s prices already show

Line up our October 21 checks and one point stands out that deal pages never show: the markdowns have started before Black Friday. Five of our eight devices were already below the list or “was” price displayed next to them: the Braun Silk·expert Pro 5 (−16.7%), the Shark FlexStyle (−20.3%), the INIA mask (−23.5%), the Revlon One-Step (−25.0%) and the Dyson Airwrap Origin on dyson.com (−27.3%). The biggest cut we saw was on a variant: the Copper edition of the Shark FlexStyle (HD433CP) was $199.99 against a typical price of $314.00, or −36.3%, with only 8 left in stock (see it on Amazon).

Bar chart of U.S. prices before Black Friday 2026 for four beauty devices
U.S. prices checked October 21, 2026 on Amazon.com and brand websites. Prices move fast around Black Friday: the button always shows today’s price.

What this means for you: a “−40%” badge on November 27 tells you little until you know where it starts. Today’s price is your benchmark. If a device you want is already discounted and in stock, there’s no shame in grabbing it now.

How to spot a real deal

The rule is public. Under the Federal Trade Commission’s Guides Against Deceptive Pricing, a “former price” used in a sale is only meaningful if the item was actually offered at that price, openly and in good faith, for a reasonably substantial period. In practice:

    1. Write down today’s price, and check it again every week or two: the table above is your starting point.
    2. Compare with the lowest price you’ve seen, not with the crossed-out one.
    3. Check on the day: the price, stock and seller (Amazon.com or a third-party seller).

    Gift ideas by budget

Under $50: the Revlon One-Step Volumizer

At $37.49 on October 21, 2026 (list price $49.99), it’s the easiest device on this list to give: a 2.8-inch oval brush that dries and adds volume in one step, and one of the most-rated beauty tools on Amazon.com (4.6/5 from 352,915 ratings). See the Revlon One-Step on Amazon. Other options are in our best hot air brush guide.

Around $100: Silk-épil 7 or the INIA mask

The Braun Silk-épil 7 epilator cost $109.94, with a Venus razor, shaver head and trimmer comb in the box (see it on Amazon), and the INIA Red Light Therapy Mask $76.48, with red, near-infrared and blue modes (see it on Amazon). To choose between Braun models, read Braun Silk-épil 7 vs. 9.

$250 and up: hair, LED or IPL

The Shark FlexStyle ($279.00, see it on Amazon) is still our most complete Dyson alternative. The Dyson Airwrap Origin is $399.99 on dyson.com, $150 off. For skincare fans, the Shark CryoGlow ($339.99, see it on Amazon) pairs red, blue and infrared light with built-in under-eye cooling.

Who should skip an IPL gift

    • Anyone whose skin tone and hair color you haven’t checked against the manual: IPL works on contrast, and every device lists the skin tones and hair colors it suits. Braun’s SensoAdapt sensor adjusts each flash to the skin tone, but the manual has the final word.
    • A surprise for someone pregnant, or with tattoos in the area to treat: these are standard IPL exclusions; give an epilator or a hair tool instead.
Good to know before buying or gifting a skincare device

Braun describes the Silk·expert Pro 5 as dermatologically and gynecologically approved, with a UV filter that makes it eye-safe without protective glasses. For LED masks, who should and shouldn’t use them is covered in our LED mask guide.

If you have doubts about your skin, ask a dermatologist before the first session; the manufacturer’s manual has the final word.

    How we choose

    1. We start from the lowest price we’ve seen, not the crossed-out one.
    2. We check the rating and the number of ratings on the day we buy.
    3. For a gift, we set aside anything that depends on the recipient’s skin.

    FAQ

    When is Black Friday 2026?
Friday, November 27, 2026, the day after Thanksgiving, followed by Cyber Monday on Monday, November 30. Deals often start earlier: write down the price of the devices you want now.

Do beauty device prices really drop before Black Friday?
Some already have. On October 21, 2026, five of the eight devices we track were below the list or “was” price shown next to them, from −16.7% (Braun Silk·expert Pro 5) to −27.3% (Dyson Airwrap Origin on dyson.com).

What does a crossed-out “was” price mean?
Under the FTC’s Guides Against Deceptive Pricing, a former price should be one at which the item was actually and openly offered, in good faith, for a reasonably substantial period. Judge a deal against the lowest price you’ve seen, not the list price.

What beauty device makes a good Christmas gift?
Under $50, the Revlon One-Step Volumizer ($37.49 on October 21, 2026), rated 4.6/5 from 352,915 ratings. An IPL device like the Braun Silk·expert Pro 5 ($349.94) is best given to someone who has checked it suits their skin tone and hair color.

    Our verdict

Our pick: the Braun Silk·expert Pro 5 IPL, because it’s $349.94 on Amazon.com, $70 below its $419.94 list price, with 4.1/5 from 2,098 ratings (checked October 21, 2026). It’s the device on this list that can replace a whole series of salon sessions, and it’s already discounted a month before Black Friday. On a tighter budget, the Revlon One-Step Volumizer at $37.49 is the safest gift, and if you want a hair tool, the Shark FlexStyle at $279.00 is our favorite. All our top picks are on our Our picks page.
